Take Official ACT® Practice Tests to the Next Level with Score Analysis

Each year, ACT® releases one of their official practice tests. These are actual exams that were given and scored to test takers. They come complete with answer keys, scoring keys, and printable answer documents.

Not only do these tests offer a crucial layer of transparency into what is actually on the ACT®, but they are essential test-prep tools (more on that later).

Below are links to some of the most recent:

There are some things to note. First, the missing years in the list above correspond to years where the practice test was a duplicate of a prior year’s offering. There was never any clear explanation for why this happened (it might have had something to do with a desire to sell more official ACT® practice test books).

Second, the ACT® writing section was revised in 2015, so the practice essays in the oldest four tests are essentially useless; the rest of the sections are still relevant, however.

How to Get the Most Out of Official Practice Tests

Whether it’s the ACT® or SAT® (Yes, College Board releases free practice tests, too!), these official test releases are critical test-prep materials that every tutor and test-prep business should take advantage of.

There are multiple ways you can leverage these practice tests to your benefit:

  • Authentic Test Day practice - Perhaps the most obvious use for these official tests is that students can experience the exact same test structure, question types, and overall experience of Test Day before actually setting foot into their testing center. Part of a comprehensive test prep plan should include several of these timed (click here for official section timings) and scored practice tests to benchmark student performance, build stamina, and increase comfort.

  • Host free practice test sessions - One of the strongest ways to generate leads is to host free practice test sessions (once it is safe to do so again, of course) that simulate an official test administration. For more, check out our free eBook that walks you through how to prepare, promote, and proctor these practice tests as a powerful leads generator.

  • Assess the quality of your test prep services - Just as students need consistent formative assessment opportunities on their test prep journey, you should view each student’s practice test as an opportunity to assess your performance as an instructor. Is progress being made on the areas you have prioritized? What still needs work? What low-hanging fruit is ripe for future improvement? A properly administered practice test can provide valid and informative answers to all three questions.

Take Advantage of Clear Choice Score Analysis and Custom Branded Score Reports

Clear Choice customers enjoy unlimited, free access to the practice test scoring systems for SAT® and ACT®. With access to these time-saving, lead-generating tools, you can truly optimize your use of official practice tests. Our scoring engine currently scores and analyzes students’ performance on any of 28 ACT® tests and 15 SAT® tests. Unlike other test-prep platforms, we neither limit the number of tests you can assign nor charge a per-test score report fee. In fact, Clear Choice customers can create unlimited free trial accounts for students, score and analyze one free practice test per trial student, and produce one free custom-branded practice test score report for each trial account.

Imagine how much easier your sales and marketing efforts would be if clients were eagerly booking score consultations with you. Imagine how much more credibility you can bring into these meetings now that you reference the student’s custom-branded score report as you explain why you’re recommending 30 hours of test-prep tutoring. Imagine how much easier it will be to get your foot in the door at local high schools once you can offer to provide free practice tests, free score reports, and free consultations for all participants.

Score reports can be generated in physical and electronic formats, which makes assessing current students and following up with prospective clients pretty much effortless. Each practice test score report breaks down every test item on every section of the practice test. Including the full analysis, these score reports average around 10 pages in length. And because every score report you produce features your brand and contact information, this feature is not only helpful with conducting the course, but it also dramatically enhances the overall professionalism of your entire test-prep operation.
