Sending Official Test Score Reports Is a Cinch With These Steps

Sending SAT® and ACT® test scores to choice colleges, universities, and scholarship agencies is a fairly simple process. Read on to find out how students can go about selecting what score reports to send and how to get their score reports delivered.

Sending SAT® Scores Through College Board

It is highly recommended that students send their SAT® scores directly through the College Board. In fact, most colleges require it and will not accept copies of score reports or high school transcripts with scores noted.

There are 2 ways to have SAT® scores sent through the College Board:

  1. Through initial SAT® registration. When students register for their SAT® test, they have the option of selecting colleges and scholarship programs to send their scores to. Students have up until 9 days after registration to choose this option at no extra cost.

  2. Through their College Board account. SAT® scores can be sent through the student’s College Board account after test day. Students can choose additional colleges (beyond the ones previously selected during their initial registration) to have their scores delivered to.

Students can also choose this option to send their scores to colleges even if they did not select the option to do so during their initial registration. Some students prefer the option of making this choice after they have received satisfactory SAT® scores.

To send SAT® scores through their College Board account, students must follow these 7 steps:

1. Sign in to their College Board account

2. Go to the “Send SAT Scores” page.

3. Answer the prompt regarding fee waivers as it applies.

4. Select the recipient schools to send SAT® scores to.

Note: Colleges can be searched by name or code.

After making the selection(s) and adding them to the score recipients list, click “Continue.”

5. Choose to send either all SAT® scores or only some SAT® scores.

Note: Students can view each selected school’s policy requirements and choose only to send what is required.

6. Review the order.

7. Check out.

Students can check back into their College Board account at any time to see the status of their orders.

SAT® Score Report Fees

When you register for the SAT® test, the College Board includes 4 free score reports for test takers to send to their selected colleges or scholarship programs. Note: Students have up to 9 days after registration to select recipient schools.

For students who qualify for a fee waiver, they are granted unlimited score reports for free.

SAT® Score Report Delivery Schedule

SAT® scores are delivered to selected colleges electronically.

  • Regular delivery of scores (selected during registration) are typically delivered to colleges within 10 days of students receiving their scores.

  • Regular delivery of scores (ordered after test day) are delivered on a rolling basis, typically on Wednesdays.

  • Rush reports are delivered 2 or 3 days a week, depending on scheduling, typically on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays.

Sending ACT® Scores Through ACT

As we previously stated with the SAT®, it is advisable to have ACT® scores sent to colleges and scholarship agencies directly through ACT. Again, most colleges will not accept anything but official score reports and will not consider copies or high school transcripts that include scores.

There are 2 ways to have ACT® scores sent through ACT:

  1. Through initial ACT® registration. When students register for the ACT® test, they have the option of selecting up to 4 colleges to have their scores sent to.

  2. Through their MyACT account. Test scores can be sent after test day through the student’s MyACT account. Students can choose any additional colleges (then previously selected during their initial registration) to have their scores delivered to.

Students can also choose this option to send their scores to colleges even if they did not select the option to do so during their initial registration. Some students prefer the option of making this choice after they have received satisfactory ACT® scores.

To send ACT® scores through their MyACT account, students must follow these 6 steps:

1. Sign in to their MyACT account.

2. Go to the scores dashboard.

3. Select the recipient schools to have their ACT® scores sent to.

Note: Colleges can be searched for by name or valid ACT codes.

4. Choose to send either all ACT® scores, ACT® scores from a specific testing event, or Superscore.

Note: Superscores are made up of the student’s best individual scores to create their best overall composite score. Superscores can only be sent if the student has had at least 2 testing events.

5. Review the order.

6. Check out.

Students can check back into their MyACT account to see the status of their orders at any time.

ACT® Score Report Fees

When students initially register for the ACT® test, ACT includes 6 free score reports: 1 report for the student, 1 report for their high school, and 4 reports to be sent to their selected colleges or scholarship agencies.

For students who qualify for ACT’s fee waiver, additional score reports are free.

ACT® Score Report Delivery Schedule

ACT® scores are delivered to selected colleges electronically.

  • Regular delivery of scores is approximately 2 to 8 weeks after the test date.

ACT does not guarantee specific days or times for score report delivery; however, ACT® score reports are processed daily during normal business days/hours. For a general score delivery timetable, see ACT’s most current score reporting dates.

Uploading SAT® and ACT® Scores to Apps

As we mentioned before, most colleges, universities, and even scholarship programs require official SAT® and ACT® score reports.

That said, if students are applying to college(s) through any of the following application platforms, they are able to upload those score reports to their respective apps.

  • The Common App - Students who apply through the Common App are able to self-report their SAT® and ACT® test scores in the Testing section of the application. However, if test scores are required, official score reports must be submitted directly through the testing agency to be considered.

Note: students can choose the Common App as a recipient of their official score report through either College Board or ACT; the relative Common App college codes can be found here.

From there, their choice colleges and universities can view their test scores and request official score reports, if required. Keep in mind that official score reports are still required to be sent directly through the testing agencies to be considered.

Through MyCoalition, applicants can also include ACT® test scores, but will need to have their official ACT® score reports sent through ACT to be considered.

Before we sign off, just a friendly reminder that Monday, May 1st was National College Decision Day. If you have any clients who missed the mark, don’t worry, they still have options!
