Last Chance: Deadlines for Taking the ACT® & SAT®
As March comes to a close and spring is in full swing, the school year starts to wind down. While that means that the highly-contagious senioritis is rampant among our senior clients, there are still a few significant deadlines left before the end of the school year.
Ideally, students should have their best ACT® or SAT® scores achieved before their senior year of high school, or -at the latest- in the early fall of their senior year. This way, they’re ready to submit their best possible scores with their college applications by their choice schools’ set deadlines. Waiting until the spring is risky. However, for seniors who are looking to get off of a waitlist, have gotten the green light to include new test scores with their college applications, or are applying through rolling admissions, preparing and taking the ACT® or SAT® in the spring is still a very attainable goal - as long as students take into account the deadlines.
Last Chance: Seniors
For your senior clients currently preparing to take the ACT® or SAT® this spring, they must take advantage of every last possible testing opportunity available. The clock is ticking and, with every passing week, time is running out.

Additionally, and depending on where your clients are in the college admissions process, they’ll want to check with their prospective colleges to find out what the last possible chances are to include test scores with their college applications—this varies by school.
Rolling Admissions
Some schools offer rolling admissions in the spring, and a few even offer it through the summer. Essentially, rolling admissions is when schools offer an extended time frame for students to apply. Students who qualify are admitted as their applications roll in. This time frame remains open until all of the spots for the incoming class have been filled.
Rolling admissions deadlines are different from the deadlines for regular decision, early action, and early decision and differ by school. The first-come, first-served (if qualified) system means that while rolling admissions is more flexible than regular decision, early action, and early decision, students do not have time to procrastinate. They need to submit their applications and test scores as soon as possible to have the best possible chance of getting accepted.
The best advice for students applying through rolling admissions is to check with their prospective school(s) for the set window of time or deadline for submission. If rolling admissions is still an option, encourage your students to either submit their best test scores or retake the ACT® or SAT® in time to include a solid test score with their application.
What to Do When It's Too Late for Class of 2022?
Some school deadlines have come and gone, making it too late for seniors to apply for Fall 2022. However, using these final testing opportunities as part of your test-prep planning for your current juniors is a great way to develop a spring and summer test-prep plan now.

Starting now (if you haven’t already), you need to start encouraging your juniors to start maximizing the time they have left. This is prime time for juniors to consider which they’ll choose—regular decision, early action (EA), or early decision (ED)—for their choice school(s). They need to know the deadlines for each and get started on their college applications as soon as possible.
How can they increase their chances of admission? Submitting a solid test score with their college application.
